DHZC - Language development and linguistic abnormalities in children with congenital heart defects - influence on pre-school and school competences in the area of language and documentation of the areas in requiring further intervention
The aim of the cooperation project, which has been running since 2023, is to shed light on language acquisition and the associated developmental processes in children with congenital heart defects. On the one hand, influencing factors on preschool and school competences in the area of language are to be determined and, on the other hand, the aim is to document the need for further measures in the area of diagnostics and support for this group of chronically ill children. To this end, interaction situations of very young children and their caregivers are analysed qualitatively in order to identify factors that promote and inhibit successful language acquisition. On the other hand, language development processes in the form of diagnostic data are linked to the factors identified in the qualitative analysis in order to determine possible correlations. In the long term, recommendations for parents, doctors and other carers will be developed in order to provide preventative support for language development.
