Information on the Placement Tests
The prerequisite for taking all English courses at the University of Potsdam, without exception, is the placement test.
In the social sciences, the following course assignments are made on the basis of the placement test results:

70-79 points | UNIcert III/1 (Sowi/Wiwi*) | English as a Key Competency courses, 6 LP/ECTS (Apply for a place via PULS) |
80-100 points | UNIcert III/2 (Sowi*) Prepares for UNIcert III exam (Level C1) | English as a Key Competency courses, 6 LP/ECTS (Apply for a place via PULS) |
90-100 points or UNIcert III examination (any subject) | UNIcert IV/1 (EAP) | To be held in the winter semester of 2025/26 |

** EAP: English for Academic Purposes
For students of social sciences who complete English courses as key competences, their choice of specialization is technically insignificant. They can take, for example, English for Social Sciences, English for Natural Sciences, or English for Economics and Business Studies. Participation in a module designed for a specific academic discipline presupposes a deeper interest in the content of the selected field.

Winter semester: as of 09:00 a.m. on the first working day in October
Summer semester: as of 09:00 a.m. on the first working day in April
