Why am I engaged as a PoGS postdoc representative?
As a postdoctoral researcher in Inclusive Education, my work examines the impact of racialized dynamics in social environments—like family, school, and broader society—on young people's development.
Starting my PhD with no German skills was a challenging process. Through PoGS and its bilingual opportunities, I was able to successfully integrate into the academic community in Germany and navigate key milestones such as teaching and mentoring. At the same time, I am deeply committed to fostering inclusive, fair, transparent, and collaborative scientific practices that challenge traditional norms about science and scientists. Through initiatives like the (Re)searching Diversity Podcast, I work to amplify the stories of diverse voices, highlighting the contributions of social scientists.
I am well equipped to address and understand the needs of both local and international postdocs navigating precarious working conditions. I hope to advocate for more equitable practices, and a stronger sense of community across PoGS.

Why am I engaged as a PoGS postdoc representative?
After studying evolutionary biology at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, I did my PhD there and at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. After a Postdoc position at the University Hospital Jena, I have been a research associate at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biology since January 2019. There I work on the genetic and genomic basis of mammalian evolution. Since my time as a PhD candidate, I have been involved in various university committees and was/am a member of the PhD, faculty or institute board. Since May 2020, I have already been a postdoc representative of the PoGS and would like to contribute my experience gained so far to another term of office. My own experiences at various research institutions as well as discussions with postdocs at the UP have made it clear how important the offers and support provided by graduate institutions are. I would therefore like to continue to strengthen the PoGS from a postdoc perspective and, in particular, work to ensure that specific offers for postdocs are expanded and made more visible.
