Why do I get engaged as a PhD candidate representative?

My research addresses the relationship between citizen and government trust, and how trust levels impact public engagement in local policymaking. Departing from a prior self-made composite indexes, I conduct mixed-method research by surveying public officials in 34 Indonesian provinces and performing fieldwork in 6 selected regions, and analysing the findings with structural equation modelling.

Pursuing a doctorate involves not only academic journey but also escalating growth towards self-transformation. Support from both academic and non-academic sources is necessary for PhD students to effectively complete their research project. In light of this, if I am chosen to serve as PoGs representative, I would like to foster an environment that offers PhD students the following programs:
• Providing institutional support, especially in research method, academic writing, data processing;
• Creating shared space to nurture peer support among PhD students running projects independently and in a research group;
• Bridging PhD project to the “real world” (academia, professional, and business entrepreneurship)

Why do I get engaged as a PhD candidate representative?

My PhD thesis is about the body experience of children in the first year of primary school in sports. I want to find out how relevant it is considered by teachers and kids and how it is actually practised in sports lessons.

Beside my PhD and my work at university, I also work as a primary teacher. Therefore I experience on a daily basis the importance of well functioning networks between the different work areas. To actually make a change, improving working conditions or making fears and wishes seen a „transfer connection“ is needed. Based on my prior experience, my interest in different topics and my communicative personality I would like to help other PhD candidates to make their personal issues seen.
