Hydrology and Climatology
Climate, water and ecology - at this interface we conduct research at the Chair of Hydrology and Climatology. We are particularly interested in the influences of the environment and humans on the water cycle and the transport of water, nutrients and sediment from the micro to the macro scale. Applied questions of flood or drought prediction are as important to us as basic research on runoff formation, erosion processes or the effects of climate change on the water balance, on ecological conditions and on hydrological extremes.
Methodically, we combine field investigations and remote sensing with the development and application of computer-aided simulation models. In this way, we are constantly expanding our understanding of complex processes. We are active regionally and internationally in very different hydro-climatic regions: from the Baltic Sea coast to the Alps, from Norway to the semi-arid and humid tropics (Brazil, India and the Philippines).
