Information
The large inflow of migrants into Western European countries over the last few years has caused an active public and scientific discussion about micro- and macroeconomic effects of migration. In this seminar we will thus deal with the gap in characteristics, behavior and outcomes between immigrants and natives with a specific focus on Germany. We are especially interested in whether and how migrants and natives differ with respect to unemployment incidence, self-employment activity, well-being and personality traits.
The aim of the seminar is to make use of the provided 50%-sample of the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) and conduct a causal analysis in STATA, applying the methodology taught in the Master courses. Over the course of the seminar you will acquire an overview of the current state of literature on your selected topic and practice presenting your results in structured manner, both in a verbal and written form. This seminar constitutes a good preparation for a master thesis.
