Teaching Mobilities with Erasmus+
Erasmus+ STA Mobilities
Would you like to teach at a partner university of the University of Potsdam? Would you like to gain teaching experience or exchange ideas on joint teaching content and methods with colleagues in other European countries? Then take advantage of the Erasmus programme for teachers!
The Erasmus+ programme supports teaching stays at European partner universities with which the University of Potsdam has concluded an agreement (Inter-institutional Agreement). A combination of teaching and further education is also possible
Who can participate?
You can apply for a teaching stay if you have a working contract with the University of Potsdam:
- Professors and other lecturers with a contractual relationship with the university
- Lecturers without an endowment
- Lecturers with work contracts
- Emeritus professors and retired lecturers
- Research assistants
What are the advantages of a Teaching Mobility with Erasmus+?
There are many good reasons for a teaching mobility with the Erasmus programme:
- You gain valuable international teaching experience and exchange ideas with colleagues in your subject area.
- Teaching visits are an important instrument for fostering partnerships.
- Young academics can build up an international network.
- An Erasmus-funded stay relieves the burden on the chair's resources.
- Your stay strengthens the European dimension of the host university,
- Your teaching programme complements that of the host university and you impart valuable specialist knowledge to students who do not want to or cannot study abroad.
- Potsdam students will also benefit from your international experience and its influence on teaching formats at U Potsdam.
What are the possible formats?
The Erasmus programme supports teaching visits in various formats with a teaching load of 8 teaching hours per week or part thereof:
- Guest lectures
- Block seminars
- Teaching in combination with the development of teaching materials
- Teaching in combination with the development of new degree programmes
- Teaching in combination with job shadowing/continuing education (reduction of teaching load to 4 hours)
Erasmus funds cannot be used to fund trips to initiate collaborations, research visits or conferences.
How do I find the right university?
You can find an overview of the partner universities for the various subjects, including the contact persons at your institute, here:
https://www.uni-potsdam.de/de/international/outgoing/studium/erasmus/koordinatoren
If there are no particularly relevant partners for your subject, please, contact the exchange coordinators and discuss possible new long-term collaborations.
What can be funded?
The minimum period for a teaching mobility in the Erasmus+ program is two working days, 60 days is the maximum funding period (pure travel days are not included).

How do I apply?
Applications can only be submitted online via the application portal. The deadlines (30 June / 30 November) are currently suspended. Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis. You should allow at least 2 months lead time. For activities that arise at short notice, please also contact us by telephone.
Please formulate meaningful answers and explicitly address the teaching project you are offering at the host university.
What are the criteria for funding?
Eligible projects are funded within the scope of available funds. The aim is to make as many lecturers as possible ‘mobile’ and enable them to gain experience abroad, which is why short stays are favoured. We expressly encourage young academics to submit an application. We also expressly welcome mobilities to our partners within the European University Alliance EDUC.

Overview of required documents
The following documents must be submitted in full for the Erasmus+ programme in order for funding to be granted:
1. Authorization / Dienstreiseantrag
The details for the business trip application “Dienstreiseantrag” can be found in the funding approval. The business trip application is first submitted to the International Office for financial review (by Sandra Nothmann) and then approved by the supervisor. Advance payments (80% of the funding amount) can be applied for in accordance with the regulations of the University of Potsdam at the earliest 30 days before the start of the mobility. Please contact Mrs Sandra Nothmann for this purpose.
2. Mobility Agreement
You will receive the Mobility Agreement with the approval, which you are asked to complete and have signed by the partner institution (a scanned version is sufficient). With the Mobility Agreement, you agree on the type, purpose and duration of the activity with the host institution.
3. Grant Agreement
Once you have submitted the Mobility Agreement, you will receive the Grant Agreement by e-mail. This must be signed by you and the International Office (“ink signed”) before the start of the mobility. It is not necessary to forward it to the partner institution. The Grant Agreement contains information on the funding period, your rights and obligations.
4. Confirmation of Stay
Together with the Grant Agreement, you will also receive the Confirmation of Stay from the International Office, which will be completed by the partner institution. Please make sure that the information provided matches the Grant Agreement.
5. EU-Survey (questionnaire)
After completing your mobility, you will receive an e-mail inviting you to complete the EU questionnaire.
6. Travel expense report
As with business trips in Germany, a travel expense report must be submitted for the Erasmus-funded training programme. Submit all relevant documents (statement form, copy of the order, invoices, tickets, receipts and corresponding proof of payment) to the International Office. The reimbursement amount is calculated and paid out in D4.
Do you have special needs?
Employees with disabilities, chronic illnesses or children (if the child/children are travelling with you) can receive special funding in the Erasmus+ programme. Further information can be found on the DAAD website. An application for reimbursement of the actual additional costs (up to € 15,000/mobility) can be submitted by the university. Please contact us in good time!
