Information for Students and Doctoral Candidates affected by the war in Ukraine

• Exchange students from Russia can enroll with or without a scholarship.
• Scholarships for students and doctoral candiates from Russia who are already present at the University of Potsdam will continue to be paid out.
• For students from Potsdam there is no nomination for studies in Russia.
• Internships in Russia will not take place until further notice.

• With the status as a refugee you are entitled to work, study and to social benefits.
• Affected students with financial difficulties and questions regarding the rent or the extention of the time in the student dormitories can get support from the Studentenwerk Potsdam.

Scholarships:

• Emergency Fund Scholarship for international students who are enrolled at the University of Potsdam and whose financial situation requires support due to the war in Ukraine.

• DAAD Master-scholarship programme EPOS (Development related post-graduate courses) for students who are nationals of the Ukraine or originate from a country of the DAC list and whose studies are interrupted because of the war in Ukraine. Deadline for application: 30.03.2023.

• Scholarships already granted to Russian students will be continued.

BAföG (Federal Education Assistance Grant)

Holders of a residence title according to § 24 AufenthG are entitled to state support according to the Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz (BAföG), provided that the other BAföG requirements are also met.

It is possible to receive BAföG upon regular enrollment in a degree-oriented course of study.

Refugees from Ukraine who continue their studies online at an Ukrainian university, are not entitled to receive the BAföG grant.

As soon as you have been admitted to a Bachelor's or Master's program at the University of Potsdam, to the DSH German course that prepares you for your studies, or to the Brandenburg SVB study preparation program, please contact the advisors at the Office for Educational Support of the Studentenwerk Potsdam.

• The University of Potsdam is asking for donations for all international students who are facing financial hardship due to the war in Ukraine. The emergency fund set up with the help of your donations is intended to help affected students cover their current living expenses and continue or complete their studies.
