Erasmus+
Program Overview
Erasmus+ is the European Union's program for education, professional training, youth, and sport, and a key tool that supports the priorities and activities within the framework of the European Education Area, the Digital Education Action Plan, and the European Skills Agenda. It also contributes significantly to the realization of the European Pillar of Social Rights, to the implementation of the EU Youth Strategy 2019–2027 and to the development of the European Dimension in Sport. Erasmus+ includes mobility and cooperation opportunities in the areas of higher education, vocational education and training, adult education, and school education (including early childhood care and education), youth, and sport.
The program contains three key actions that are being implemented at the University of Potsdam in the area of higher education:
- Key Action I: Mobility of individuals
- Key Action II: Cooperation among organizations and institutions
- Key Action III: Support to policy development and cooperation
The University of Potsdam has already submitted its successful application for accreditation in the Erasmus+ program for the entire period 2021–2027. The EU awarded the University of Potsdam with the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), based in part on a European Policy Statement that the University of Potsdam submitted as part of the application. With regard to the program, the rights and obligations of students on the move in the Erasmus+ program are laid down in the Student Charter. You can also read more about the individual activities on the website of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) or find a summary in this flyer.
Key Action I
Key Action I includes individual mobilities of students, teaching staff, and employees. All measures related to this key action – i.e. study and internship stays abroad for students, teaching placements, or staff mobility for further and continuing education purposes – are managed by the International Office. For more details on the offers within and outside Europe, please visit the websites Erasmus+ Europe-Wide and Erasmus+ Worldwide.
Key Actions II and III
Key actions II and III comprise various project-based measures that you can apply for both centrally through the University of Potsdam and through the individual academic departments. The employees in the EU section of Division 1 are at your disposal as your first point of contact at the UP.
Erasmus+ Key Action II "Cooperation among organizations and institutions" promotes the internationalization of European higher education institutions within the framework of cooperation partnerships, alliances for innovation, joint Erasmus Mundus master's degree programs, teaching staff academies, future-oriented projects, and the pilot initiative "European Universities" – in which the University of Potsdam is also involved as part of the European Digital UniverCity (EDUC) – as well as networking and joint capacity-building projects worldwide in international partnerships.
Key Action III "Support to policy development and policy cooperation" promotes cooperation at the EU level and is considered an instrument for the implementation of policies and the development of new political strategies that can lead to modernization and reform.
For detailed information on the various funding opportunities, please refer to the websites of the Erasmus+ program and the National Agency for EU Higher Education Cooperation.
