Stephanie Malia Hom is Executive Director of the Acus Foundation (Berkeley, California), which deals with the medical treatment of soldiers and veterans. After studying at Brown University and at the University of California Berkeley, she was Presidential Professor of Italian at the University of Oklahoma. Her main research interests are the cultural politics of immigration and tourism in the Mediterranean, with a special focus on Italy. She is the author of The Beautiful Country: Tourism and the Impossible State of Destination Italy (Toronto 2015) and of Empire’s Moebius Strip: Historical Echoes in Italy’s Crisis of Migration and Detention (Cornell 2019); she co-edited with R. Ben-Ghiat Italian Mobilities (London/New York 2016).
