Bildungsraum Digital (BIRD)

In the project Bildungsraum Digital (BIRD), a network coordinated by the University of Potsdam is developing the first of a total of four prototypes for a future national education platform. In BIRD, the focus is on developing the technical backbone of the platform - an infrastructure for integrating existing portal solutions and learning offerings. This will enable the testing of structures for data exchange, the interoperability of different platform types and the implementation of standards. The planned National Education Platform will support and professionalise the digitisation push in the education sector nationwide, which was forced by the Corona pandemic, while at the same time recognising and respecting competences and responsibilities in the federal education system.

The development of the first prototype for the future National Education Platform is supported by a strong alliance of university, civil society and business actors. The collaborative partners are:

  • University of Potsdam, Chair for Complex Multimedia Application Architectures
  • German Academic Exchange Service, a Registered Association, Bonn and Berlin
  • Technical University of Berlin
  • Society for Scientific Data Processing Ltd., Göttingen
  • Society for Academic Study Preparation and Test Development (g.a.s.t.), a Registered Association, Bochum
  • edu-sharing, a Registered Association, Weimar
  • Alliance for Education, a Registered Association, Berlin
  • MathPlan GmbH, Berlin
  • Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
