Accessible Campus Navigation

The picture shows a route planner on a mobile terminal optimized for the visually impaired.

Within a student project with subsequent documentary work, an application prototype (Android) was developed, which helps students with disabilities to navigate on the campus of the University of Potsdam.

On the basis of ground plans and accessibility data, which were made available by the Chair for Technology and Vocational Orientation (http://www.uni-potsdam.de/projekt-barrierefreiheit), building plans were created using the IndoorOSM format and enriched with accessibility data .

Students can use the application to determine the best route for them and navigate the campus using the path from the application. The optimal path consists of as few obstacles as possible to the respective impairment as well as an acceptable path length. For students with visual impairment, a gesture control and speech output of all contents is implemented.
