Unfortunately, it's becoming increasingly difficult for international students to find affordable housing in our region.

If you have a vacant room in your house, apartment or shared apartment or would like to sublet your apartment or room for the time of your stay abroad, you can send your offer to the International Office. We will be happy to forward it to international students, who are looking for a place to stay.

Subleasing

Please note: If you are a tenant of the apartment, the permission of the landlord is required for subleasing.

If you are living in a dormatory of Studentenwerk Potsdam, you may only sublet your room with the approval of the Studentenwerk. Please get in touch with your responsible clerk and submit the contract for subleasing.

For furnished accommodation that is (sub)leased for a limited period of time, it is advisable to set a flat-rate rent, which already includes costs for electricity, water, heating, internet and, if applicable, radio licence fees and final cleaning.

Exchange students usually stay for 1 or 2 semesters and search for a room from September/ October till February/March for the winter semester and from March/ April till July/ August for the summer semester.

Lease contract

In the following, we provde you with a sample for a lease contract. Please feel free to use and costumize it.

Since November 2015, landlords have been obliged to document the arrival and departure of tenants by means of a confirmation form, called Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. Landlords can be property management companies, apartment owners, or, in the case of subletting, the main tenants of an apartment. The (sub)tenants must present this confirmation form when registering at the Citizen Services Office (Buergerservice/ Buergeramt).

What needs to be considered

  • The International Office only forwards the offers to students. It is not liable for neither the students nor the Landlords.
  • The International Office can't supervise or assist in tenancy related issues - please manage all questions independently.
  • If your housing offer is no longer available or if you no longer wish for the offer to be conveyed, please inform us via email.

Thank you!

The International Office wants to say thank you for your participation in offering international students a place to stay.
