Conditions for the use of the UP-Contingent of the International Office

In order to support international students coming from abroad in their search for affordable housing, the International Office of the University of Potsdam offers the service of finding a place in a dormitory from a contingent.

The dormitory places from the contingent are allocated according to internal guidelines and the allocation guidelines of the Studentenwerk Potsdam as well as according to the "first-come-first-served" principle. Here, the date of receipt of the service fee counts.

The regular rental period is 1 semester. 1 semester corresponds to 6 months. The summer semester runs from April to September and the winter semester from October to March. Shortening is possible only with prior consent for the following cases:

•     In the summer semester 2 months = shortening until the end of July.
•     In the winter semester 1 month = shortening until the end of February.

The possibility of extending a rental period is considered individually.

It is not possible to apply for a specific room type or for a specific dormitory. However, preferences can be stated during the application process and the Studentenwerk Potsdam will make every effort to take these into account when allocating rooms.

A service fee of €238.00 incl. VAT is charged for the UP-Contingent for the first semester. For each additional semester we charge € 119.00 incl. VAT. The service fee must be paid in full within one week of receipt of the invoice, unless the individual invoice shows a different amount. Payment in installments is not possible.

A room from the contingent will only be bindingly confirmed after receipt of payment. Please do not transfer money until you have received an invoice from us!

The rental contract is not concluded with the University of Potsdam, but with the Studentenwerk Potsdam. The conditions agreed there apply.

All payments must be made in EURO (€). Upon receipt of the invoice, payment is due in seven days.

Please note that you, as the ordering party, are responsible for all bank charges. If, during the payment process, a small amount remains unpaid on the applicant's account as a result of currency conversions or bank-specific procedures, the difference must be settled immediately by bank transfer.

Any overpayments will only be refunded if the amount exceeds 25 EURO, as bank charges and currency conversions would otherwise exceed this amount.

In case of unsuccessful payment at the expiry of the deadline, the application for the residence placement service will be cancelled and the place will be assigned to someone else. Your application for a place at the University of Potsdam remains unaffected.

In the case of short-term applications (after the respective deadlines), payment of the service fee is due immediately.

Cancellations made by August 31st for the winter semester and February 28th for the summer semester will incur a cancellation fee of €50.

Cancellations in August for the winter semester and March for the summer semester will incur a cancellation fee of 50% of the service fee paid.

No refunds are possible from October for the winter semester and April for the summer semester.

Participants will receive any refunds less any bank charges incurred.

All data between applicants and the University of Potsdam will be transferred to our MoveON database. Applicants are informed that the information they provide when booking the placement service with the University of Potsdam will be stored to the extent necessary and, only to the extent required, transferred to third parties. The University of Potsdam is liable within the framework of the legal requirements.

The place of jurisdiction is Potsdam.
