Professional Sports
An immense amount of time is required to achieve top athletic performance. Competitive sports are moreover practiced in a period of life in which the foundations are laid for a later professional career. There are unmistakable difficulties in combining studies and top-level sport, which result from the comprehensive academic and sporting requirements.
In order to make the balancing act between studying and top-level sport easier for student athletes, the adh (German University Sports Association) initiated the "Partner University of Professional Sports" with various partners in 1999.
Within the framework of these cooperation agreements, a network system is provided to compensate for specific disadvantages for currently about 1,200 studying top athletes at about 90 adh member universities. The cooperation partners enable the students to successfully complete their academic education despite the high time demands of professional sports.
The University of Potsdam, the Studentenwerk Potsdam, the Landessportbund Brandenburg, the OSP Brandenburg and the Allgemeine Deutsche Hochschulsportverband signed this agreement in 2006 for the support of the student athletes of the University of Potsdam.
In honor of our professional student athletes as well as our participants in national and international student championships, the Reception for Student and Professional Athletes is held annually.
