Background:
The Philipp Schwartz Initiative was launched in 2015 by the Humboldt Foundation in collaboration with the Federal Foreign Office. The initiative was named after the Austrian pathologist Philipp Schwarz, who lost his professorship in Frankfurt in 1933 due to his Jewish faith. He went into exile in Switzerland, where he founded the "Notgemeinschaft deutscher Wissenschaftler im Ausland" (Emergency Association of German Scientists Abroad).
The central theme of the initiative:
Under the initiative, scientists who are exposed to considerable and persistent personal danger in their home countries due to political conditions can continue their work at German universities and research institutions.
What is the goal of this specific project?
Within the framework of the project, Professor Proeller has taken over the organization, coordination and cooperation with a scientist from Afghanistan, who will continue his/her research at the University of Potsdam through the initiative.
