National Regulatory Control Council: Nationaler Normenkontrollrat (NKR)
Prof. Dr. Sabine Kuhlman has been Deputy Chair of the National Regulatory Control Council NKR since February 2017. She has been a member of the NKR since 2011 and was appointed for a second term by the Federal President, Joachim Gauck, in September 2016 at the proposal of the Federal Chancellor, Dr. Angela Merkel. She was subsequently appointed for a third term in May 2022 by the Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at the proposal of the Federal Cabinet.
The National Regulatory Control Council is tasked with supporting the German government in implementing its measures to reduce bureaucracy and improve legislation. The aim is to ensure that each new law causes only as much bureaucracy as is absolutely necessary for its implementation. Since 2022, the NKR has additional auditing powers, in particular the extent to which digital solutions have been taken into account.
