Staying in touch - Deputy Ambassador of Ukraine Maksym Yemelianov visits the Chair of Military History
The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine continues to preoccupy the public and also academia. On 11 July, in a course offered by Dr Bastian Matteo Scianna, a panel discussion on Germany's policy towards the East and Russia took place at the University of Potsdam, to which the Deputy Ambassador of Ukraine, Maksym Yemelianov, among others, was invited. In addition to Yemelianov, Dr Hans-Peter Bartels, Prof. Dr Joachim Krause and Dr Scianna took part in the discussion.
"The basic tenor of the debate was the need for intensive academic research on German Ostpolitik after 1990," says Scianna, who was pleased, among other things, with the great interest in the discussion and would like to make an initial contribution to further academic engagement with his own book project on German policy towards Russia. In addition to numerous students, several researchers attended the event, including the two historians Prof. Dr. Dominik Geppert and Prof. Dr. Sönke Neitzel.
