Assessment of Socio-economic Factors
Since GHG emissions depend on agricultural practices and crop types, measurements of GHG emissions and carbon pool dynamics will be achieved in the main crops in each study site. A field prospection of croplands will enable the selection of the main crop (millet, sorghum, cotton, maize, rice, cassava, or yam). Since rice cultivation is one of the main sources of emissions in the agricultural sector, rice fields, generally located in irrigated lowland areas will be selected in each climatic zone, if possible. Within each site and land-use type, we will measure GHG emissions and carbon pool dynamics. Tier 3 focuses on the assessment of socio-economic factors, specifically agricultural practices and innovations of farmers (WP 7).
