Election Principles
Office and Body Elections at the University of Potsdam take place in analogy to Article 38 (1) of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany as general, direct, free, equal and secret elections.
- General means all members of the University of Potsdam are entitled to vote actively and passively, according to GrundO Article 1(version of 14.12.2022). All other persons working at the University are members. According to GrundO Article 1(version of 14.12.2022), they only have active voting rights.
- The voters elect the candidates directly, i.e. without "electoral men" or "electoral women" to whom one transfers one's vote.
- All voters are free in their choice - no one may put pressure on them.
- The weight of each vote is the equal, regardless of the position the voter holds at the University of Potsdam.
- The individual voting decision remains secret as long as there is no agreement on a public casting of votes.
Further details are regulated by the election regulations of the University of Potsdam.
