Position CRC1644/B41– PhD student Nikoloski group

The successful candidate will work 26 hours per week (65%), employed at the University of Potsdam. The position is classified within remuneration group 13 of the collective wage agreement among the German states (TV-L). The earliest possible starting date is 1 January 2025 and the position is limited until 31 December 2027. The fixed term of employment is in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the German Act on Limited Scientific Contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz or WissZeitVG).

Your responsibilities:

  • generate thermodynamics-based approaches for prediction of reaction norms of photorespiratory pathway using genotype-specific metabolic models and relative metabolite levels
  • integrate constraints based on data from other projects in the consortium, particularly on photosynthesis
  • conduct robustness and sensitivity analyses for the predictions
  • identify the genetic architecture for plasticity of photorespiratory metabolism
  • prepare reusable, documented code for reproducible analyses

Results from your work on this project should form the basis for your doctorate/PhD.

Prior specialization in plant sciences is helpful, but not required. Practical knowledge in any of the following areas is desirable:

  • computational biology
  • quantitative genetics
  • computer science
  • bioinformatics
  • mathematics
