Position CRC1644/B32 – PhD student Linstädter group

The successful candidate will work 26 hours per week (65%), employed at the University of Potsdam. The position is classified within remuneration group 13 of the collective wage agreement among the German states (TV-L). The earliest possible starting date is 1 January 2025 and the position is limited until 31 December 2027. The fixed term of employment is in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the German Act on Limited Scientific Contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz or WissZeitVG).

Your responsibilities:

  • conduct controlled experiments exposing plants to altered nitrogen and temperature levels
  • quantify leaf traits related to functional strategies
  • assess the plasticity of traits in response to experimental treatments
  • identify the molecular basis underlying variation in plasticity of leaf traits
  • explore the adaptive value of plasticity in leaf traits
  • relate plasticity patterns to plants’ ecological strategies and to plant function

Results from your work on this project should form the basis for your doctorate/PhD.

We expect a strong interest in generating knowledge on the role of intraspecific phenotypic variation for fundamental ecological processes and dynamics. Theoretical and practical knowledge in any of the following areas is desirable:

  • functional plant ecology
  • trait-based ecology
  • quantitative genetics
  • ecological statistics
