A recently published research paper (Korell et al. 2024) in Global Change Biology Journal with contributions from our working group sparked interest in the Tagesschau news section (German only). Lead author Dr Lotte Korell of Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) explains how future climate conditions will likely impact also meadows and pastures in central Germany. Research was conducted at Global Change Experimental Facility (GCEF) in UFZ’s research site at Bad Lauchstädt. The recent research demonstrates that meadows and pastures with higher plant biodiversity are more resistant to climate change than commonly planted and intensively used meadows with low plant biodiversity that consist of few high-yield species only. Higher biodiversity buffered grasslands against detrimental impacts especially in drought years.
