I studied English and French at the University of Potsdam and IUFM in Caen. After obtaining my Second State Exam in Berlin in 2009, I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where I worked at the Goethe Institut, San Francisco State University, and an international language institute. In late 2013, I started a position as research assistant and my doctoral thesis at the Department of English Language Education at the TU Braunschweig. I spent the fall term of 2015/2016 as a research fellow at the Graduate School of Education at UC Berkeley. In early 2017 I received my doctorate with a thesis on the potential of serious games for Global Education in the EFL classroom. Upon my return to the Bay Area in 2017, I started teaching at the German International School in the East Bay, became its vice principal in 2019 and its principal in 2020. In the fall of 2024, I assumed a role of research assistant in the Department of ELE at the University of Potsdam.
