3. Publication of Dissertation and Submission Requirements
Note:
The Dean will issue a provisional certification that includes the grade of the dissertation as well as the overall grade. Such certification does not authorize the holder to use the title Dr. phil. (Ph.D.).
The dissertation shall be published within two years after the date of the oral examination and delivered free of charge to the University Library. The copies to be published must
- be marked as a dissertation,
- state the topic, the author's name, the statement "submitted to the Faculty of Human Sciences of the University of Potsdam" and the year of the submission on the title page,
- name of the reviewers and the date of the oral examination on the reverse side of the title page.
The dissertation shall be deemed published if it was published as a whole prior to evaluation.
Approved types of publication are:
- publication as a monograph by a commercial publisher; it has to be marked as a dissertation of the University of Potsdam
- publication in a journal
- publication in an electronic format on a publication server of the University Library under:

Award of the Doctoral Degree
When the submission requirements have been fulfilled, the doctorate will be awarded by handing over the doctoral certificate. Upon the delivery of the doctoral certificate, the candidate is entitled to use the title of a Doktor/Doktorin der Philosophie (Dr. phil.) or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
