Background:

The joint project "MobileFabLabs: WI+R Verbundwerkstatt Lausitz"(MoFab) explores openly designed innovation processes in the context of maintenance, servicing and repair, which are geared towards the participation of the Lusatian citizenry. The focus is on the Lusatian-specific topics of mobility, water use, industry and culture. The project aims to create dynamics between local problems and modern technologies, which will be developed into demonstrators in the further course. The result is a social innovation model as well as concrete solutions from the citizenry.

Main research question:

How can decentralized technologies, open workshops and decentralized infrastructures be part of a future vision of Lusatia? How are open hardware projects designed on the process level? What is the impact of the developed participation formats on participants' self-efficacy, self-determination and willingness to repair?

Research objective:

The goal is to develop an open hardware process model and implement six open hardware demonstrators. We are also setting up a first Prototype Fund Hardware as part of the project.
