Scientific profile

Field work in Ladakh 2011. Me digging a pit for sampling a 10Be-depth profile for surface exposure age dating of a till plain at the Shyok-Nubra confluence..

My expertise includes the development and application of physical and statistical models in natural hazard research, landscape evolution, and paleoclimatology.  As the scientific coordinator of a large, DAAD co-financed Indo-German project on natural hazards in the Himalayas (Co-PREPARE), I gained invaluable professional experience at the interface between science, the university administration and the funding agency. I am responsible for the organisation of reciprocal exchanges of doctoral candidates and MSc students and for organising an Indo-German field school into the Indian Himalayas. The latter focuses on the increase in extreme hydrometeorological events and their impacts on the expansion of hydropower and transport infrastructure.

I am the the UP contact person for Geo.X, the geoscience research network in Berlin and Brandenburg. Geo.X offers three funding programs, which I played a leading role in designing.

Over the past three years, together with partners from Potsdam’s research community, I contributed to organizing the Potsdam Summer School on sustainable development topics.

From mid-2020 to early 2024, I worked part-time for the Swiss National Cooperative for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste (Nagra). In collaboration with colleagues from UP and Université Rennes 1, France, I was heavily involved in a study on the impact of glacial-interglacial climate fluctuations on the evolution of the Rhine between Lake Constance and Basel.
