University of Potsdam sets an example for democracy
On the occasion of the state elections in Brandenburg on 22 September, the University of Potsdam has launched an election appeal. Its President Prof Oliver Günther appealed to the citizens of the state to ‘take responsibility and actively help shape the future.’ In addition to the university management, researchers, staff and students are supporting the appeal. The summer semester is taking place, just in a different way. Important deadlines will be extended. School students can also prepare for enrollment in the winter semester 2020/21. The University President thanks everyone for their adaptability, flexibility and support in this unfortunate situation.

From Tuesday on, the University of Potsdam will scale back operations even further and transition to so-called emergency on-site operations. “We have to do our part to slow the spread of the corona pandemic,” Prof. Oliver Günther said in a video message for university members. He added that the health of employees, students and scientists at our institutions of higher education was a top priority. “We have established a crisis management team at the University of Potsdam and the Senate has approved a pandemic plan. This way, we are prepared for the worst,” the President underlined. He considers emergency on-site operations to be a necessary tool. “Since students and faculty have many social contacts, the potential risks are high. Nevertheless, digital teaching and research with a systemic relevance remain possible.”
