The Institute of Physics and Astronomy
At the Institute of Physics and Astronomy, we offer a German-language Bachelor's and Master's degree program in physics, English-language Master's degree programs in astrophysics and climate physics, as well as a Bachelor's and Master's degree in physics teaching.
The campus in Golm, with its institutes for physics, mathematics, chemistry, as well as earth and environmental sciences and biology, is with its connections to close by Max Planck and Fraunhofer Institutes a state-of-the-art location for studying sciences. The physics institute itself is an elegant new building with lecture and seminar rooms and workplaces for the students. At the institute we offer specialization options in solid state, soft matter and quantum physics, statistical, nonlinear and biological physics. In cooperation with the Astrophysical Institute in Babelsberg and the Albert Einstein Institute in Golm, a unique specialization in Astrophysics is possible. Students who want to study climate sciences benefit from the proximity of the Institutes for Climate Impact Research and for Polar Research on the Telegraphenberg and the Institute for Geosciences.
With 15 professors in the institute and around 20 professors at non-university institutes, the mentoring relationship between the students and professors can flourish.
