Study and Teaching
The Faculty of Arts is the largest of the five faculties of the University of Potsdam with approximately 6.000 students. In 10 departments motivated and highly qualified professors and academic staff members are involved in teaching and research. The variety of practice- and research-oriented cultural science-based degree programs is a special attraction of the Faculty of Arts, which is, in addition, an authentic place of interdisciplinarity.
Besides teacher training programmes in primary and secondary education, the Faculty of Arts offers 16 bachelor's degree programs which generally permit various subject combinations and 15 partly interdisciplinary master's degree programs. Of course it is also possible to do a doctorate or a post-doctoral degree (Habilitation) at the Faculty of Arts.
The six- or eight-semester bachelor's degree gives graduatesaccess to the labour market or, alternatively, to a consecutive master's degree that provides the possibility to deepen their practice and research-oriented studies. The subdivision of the programs into modules promotes the clarity of the studies and the implementing of a quality management system contributes to the excellence in academic programs and teaching. The Faculty of Arts is internationally aligned and guarantees by flexible program timetables and the conclusions of learning agreements during a study period a high mobility of the students.
To study for a degree at the Faculty of Arts means to learn at a faculty with at a modern structure and on an attractively situated campus. The buildings of the Faculty of Arts are situated directly by the Park Sanssouci. The city centre of Potsdam is about 2 km away. Regional trains go every 30 minutes directly from the railway station Park Sanssouci directly to Berlin.
Through the successful integration into the economic and cultural region of Brandenburg-Berlin, a course of study with us offers you alongside professional qualifications many possibilities for parallel practice investigation and job orientation. In addition, there are various and comprehensive cultural activities that are offered by the cities of Potsdam and Berlin just for students of our Faculty.
Since summer 2011 you can search for courses and teaching staff of the departments in a databased-oriented prospectus. A search is also possible via intranet.
