Women's Retreat 2019
4-5th April 2019
Bad Belzig, Brandenburg
The women of the RTG minor cosmopolitanisms, including supervisors, coordinators, and student assistants, attended a women’s retreat at Bad Belzig, Brandenburg from 4-5th April 2019. The retreat started as an opportunity for informal networking and workshops, but ended touching upon a variety of topics that affect women in academia. The workshop included special guests Emilia Roig, co-founder of the Center for Intersectional Justice and Jenny Wawrzinek, adjunct professor at University of Potsdam and visiting professor at Humboldt University. Both scholars gave talks on their career paths, finding funding for projects, and challenges they’ve faced because of their gender. Other workshops included:
“Cybersecurity”: a workshop by Sara Morais dos Santos Bruss on protecting your data and activity online by recognizing which sites are selling data to third parties.
“Nicole’s Early Bird Writing Club”: a writing workshop with supervisor Nicole Waller.
“Coaching Methods from the 1980’s”: a workshop by Irene Hilden on methods used for breaking down goals and tasks into smaller more conceptual tasks.
“Feedback Groups”: a peer-review feedback session on pieces of the participants' academic writing.
