Special Research Grant - Cooperatives in Eastern Europe. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow.
In Cooperation with Stiftung Livländische Gemeinnützige (Livonian Community Foundation) the University Potsdam announces a research grant for 1.000€ per month for the duration of 12 months (with option for extension). It will be awarded to students who are already carry out research in the field of cooperatives in eastern Europe or who are firmly dedicated to joining the field. Students from Berlin or Brandenburg will be considered preferentially.
The Livonan Community Foundation aims (according to statue) to "promote scholarship and research as well as popular education, industrial training and development cooperation between and together with EU-countries at the eastern Baltic Sea" - henceforth extended to neighboring Ukraine.
The research to be supported with above-mentioned grant is to encompass the analysis of documentation (utilisable cultural heritage) pertaining to the cooperatives that existed up until the end of the Russian Empire and their continuation (until 1940) in the newly independent Baltic countries and Ukraine. The question of whether cooperative history can deliver impulses to shape the future of the previously mentioned countries, especially in regards to Ukraine's intended EU-integration should take centrality.
Requirements are sufficient proficiency in both the german and russian language as well as the willingness to publish research results. The selection of applicants will be undertaken by a comittee comprised of representatives of the foundation and east europe experts. Details like specialized supervision and mentorship will be discussed with chosen applicants.
