The Startup Radar, which has now appeared six times, is produced by the Stifterverband together with Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Economy and Climate Protection. The Startup Radar examines startup formation at German universities in terms of quantity and quality, comparing various dimensions such as institutional anchoring of startups as well as startup activities such as raising awareness, training and qualification, support, existing startup networks, as well as actual startup formation.
“Landing in the Top 3 of the overall rankings points to our sustainable startup culture at the University of Potsdam and also provides us with even more motivation,” says Johannes Zier, Director of Startup Services. “We look forward to continuing to strengthen the startup ecosystem in cooperation with the federal government, the state of Brandenburg and the city of Potsdam.”
The University of Potsdam has an excellent startup ecosystem, including the best startup support among all universities with regard to support during the pre- and post-startup phase. This provides the best possible support to national and international startup founders whenever it’s about starting their own company, innovation, or knowledge and technology transfer.
Brandenburg’s largest university places particular emphasis on active support for students, researchers and employees as they make their way towards founding their own company. The Startup Service at Potsdam Transfer has already helped 331 startups since 2011. There are numerous examples of how successfully these new companies can develop, including Signavio, Lana Labs, Ackerdemia, koppla and Vly Foods.
In recent years, the University of Potsdam has regularly taken top-ten placements in national startup rankings. With the federal EXIST funding programs and the support of the ESF European Social Fund, the university has succeeded in establishing the startup and transfer center Potsdam Transfer as a central institution at the university. This center for knowledge and technology transfer brings together everything that is on offer for startups and spin-offs as well as contract and cooperative research.
