The European Mineralogical Conference 2024, held in Dublin, was a significant event for mineralogists, geologists, and Earth science professionals from across Europe and beyond. This prestigious gathering provided a platform for the exchange of ground-breaking research and developments in mineralogy, crystallography, geochemistry, and petrology. The conference took place in Dublin, a city renowned for its scientific community and geological heritage, making it an ideal host for such a major event.

The conference featured a comprehensive program, including keynote lectures by leading figures in mineralogical sciences, technical sessions, field trips, poster presentations, and workshops. Attendees explored a wide range of topics, from mineral structures and environmental mineralogy to the role of minerals in planetary evolution and advancements in mineral analysis technology. The event also addressed pressing contemporary issues such as the importance of minerals in sustainable development, critical raw materials and their role in renewable energy technologies.

Several members of the mineralogical group of the University of Potsdam presented their research by either giving talks or presenting posters (e. g. Prof. Dr. Max Wilke, Dr. Lea Pennacchioni, Christoph Moeller, Dr. Maria Kokh, Georgii Kovalskii). Dr. Melanie Sieber hosted the session “Origin and composition of CO2-bearing fluids and melts as transport agents between mantle and crust” and Dr. Maximilian Korges the session “Understanding the geology and formation of ore deposits – new constraints on the enrichment processes of metals”.
