Welcome to the Linguistics Student Council

As a student council we represent the interests of the students at the faculty (Statutes of the Linguistics FSR)

We include students from the following degree programs:

  • BSc Linguistics (minor and major)
  • MSc Linguistics: Empirical & Theoretical Foundations    
  • BSc Computational Linguistics    
  • BSc Patholinguistics    
  • MSc International Experimental and Clinical Linguistics (IECL)    
  • European Master in Clinical Linguistics (EMCL)

If you have any questions about your studies or problems during your studies, we will be happy to assist you. You can send us an e-mail to: fsr-linguistik[at]lists.astaup.de (Due to a high volume of spam, only emails from University of Potsdam e-mail addresses will be received.)

We have an office on the first floor of  building 14, Golm Campus, (2.14.1.01), where one of us will be present every Monday 12:00 - 16:00 during term time. Feel free to come and meet us then and ask any questions you may have.

If you have difficulties with German or English, we can also support you in some other languages (e.g. Russian or Arabic), since we are international ourselves.

We also try to get involved in internal university events such as accreditation processes and changes to study regulations. We are always open to suggestions and are happy to pass them on to the study program directors.

We especially want to support new students at the University of Potsdam and international students and plan events for this purpose at the beginning of each semester. We communicate these events via our e-mail distribution list. As a student of one of the above mentioned programs, you should automatically receive our e-mails.

We meet monthly in person or by Zoom and you are all invited to attend if you wish. Meeting details will be posted here at least one week beforehand. We are always happy to welcome new faces! :)

Dear First-year,

Each of us has been in the same situation and knows how exciting it is to start this new phase of life.
After receiving your letter of admission, you are very excited, but you also have a lot of questions. Here we try to answer the most important questions at a glance and give you some help.
Whilst we are available to answer your personal questions, you can of course also contact other university departments. Please note, however, that many new students start their studies in Potsdam each winter semester and therefore not all enquiries can be processed immediately. Please try to find answers to your questions yourself using the information provided on these pages in the coming weeks.

Social media groups are normally set up for each set of First-years by the students themselves where you can help each other. We are not responsible for the posts and possibly incorrect information shared there by students, even if we try to correct incorrect comments.

We therefore ask you to first obtain information about your studies from the website www.uni-potsdam.de/de/studium/konkret/anfaenger or from us.
