A large number of projects are listed in the database of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation on floodplain restoration projects on German rivers (Ehlert & Natho 2017, BMU & BfN 2021). According to the floodplain status report (BMU & BfN 2021) there were improvements in the floodplain status partly as a result of restoration measures. But how are the ecosystem services changing in these areas? Hence ten large restoration projects with detailed documentation of the restoration measures are selected. Then the existing ecosystem services are evaluated and compared using the developed method, before and after the restoration.
