Ulrike Lucke, Professor of Complex Multimedia Application Systems, Dr. Tobias Moebert, Ann-Marie Gursch and Lilian Hasse from the Institute of Computer Science receive the State of Brandenburg's Teaching Award for their seminar "Ethics for Nerds", in which they deal with ethical aspects of the use of artificial intelligence (AI). In the course, which is run jointly with the Technical University of Munich, the students work on individual topics in tandems that preferably span multiple universities. Due to their different cultural and professional backgrounds, they bring different perceptions of AI and ethics in society and politics and promote a pluralistic perspective. "There is no right or wrong in this course," says Ulrike Lucke. "We look at various theories of normative ethics and relevant professional ethics, which the students use to reflect on specific AI systems or applications. Taking ethical aspects of the use of AI into account is not practiced as a checklist to be ticked off, but as a negotiation process that is constantly being carried out anew."
