- If you are not familiar with the German higher educational system, please first read this overview webpage of the International Office at the University of Potsdam. - In general, the prerequisite for admission to this Master program is a first professionally qualifying academic degree, e.g., a Bachelor's degree. More specifically for the master program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, you should have obtained your first degree in biology, biochemistry, biosciences, biotechnology, or biomedicine totaling 180 credit points. Academic degrees in related fields may be recognized provided they are equivalent or comparable.
- You must provide proof of knowledge in molecular biology and biochemistry totaling at least 60 credit points as well as evidence of the acquisition of basic scientific working techniques for the preparation and writing of scientific papers and texts or practical work (e.g. protocols) amounting to 18 CP.
- Your language skills in English must be at least at B2 level and in German at least at A2 level according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages. Further information on accepted certificates can be found here.
- Applications for the international master program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology are possible both for winter semester and for summer semester. Since many courses are usually offered during winter semester, starting in summer semester may lead to limited choices.
- First semester application for the master program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is submitted via the online application portal Uni-Assist. There you will receive all necessary information for the application. You can use the contact form and phone numbers of Uni Assist if you have questions about the online application. If your documents are complete, UniAssist will transmit them to the examination board of the Master program. If you received the notification from UniAssist that your application was forwarded to the University, we received your application. Please note that your application will not be evaluated directly upon receipt. The examination board reviews the application documents and decides on admission approximately 2-4 weeks after the application deadline. You will be contacted and invited to an introductory event if you have been admitted.
- Note the deadline for application and the important dates during your studies.The dealine for application for the summer term is usually December, 1st of the previous year and for the winter term it is usually June 1.
- If you have obtained a letter of admission, you have to send a copy of the acceptance of admission to the examination board and enroll at the examination office before the deadline stated in the letter.
- If you have already obtained a Master’s degree and want to enter a second degree, you will have to enter the application process for a second degree.
- If you are already at an advanced state of your own education (without a formal Master’s degree) and you do not want to start here in the first semester (for example, due to higher education and / or degree programs), please have a look at the FAQs how enrollment in a higher semester works.
