Fabrication Lab

Introduction

The Fabrication Lab is a shared facility of the Faculty of Science, open to all students and employees of the University of Potsdam. “Learning by Doing” is our maxim. If you have an idea for a project that helps developing your scientific skill set or need something to advance your research, do not hesitate to contact us. First, we will have a look at your project and will give you a consult concerning feasibility. We might forward you to our technical staff, if necessary. If we decide to proceed, we will help you with the planning of your Fabrication Project. We provide equipment and some basic consumables. More advanced materials must be provided by yourself. If this is a problem, we will support you in finding financial resources for your project. Before you can start, you need general safety training and an introduction to every equipment you are going to use. In the summer term, there will be a seminar “Introduction to the Fabrication Lab”.

FabLab Blackboard

Are you looking for helpers, to support your project? You can publish your idea on the blackboard. Just, write a short abstract in German or English, including the Project Name, a Brief Description (max. 155 characters) and your contact details.

Vise versa: If you are looking for a project, have a look at our blackboard and see if you find an exciting project.

User Fees

In the pilot phase, the use is free. We want to have as many people and projects on board as possible. In future, we consider asking for an annual fee for non-student users, to cover expenses for basic consumables and maintenance. If you are an employee of the University, you have to purchase pricey materials for your project.
