"This course is the perfect start." High Satisfaction among SVB Course Participants despite Corona Semester

The team in the Department “Successful Start for International Students” at Zessko conducted a survey to determine the level of student satisfaction with the course Studienvorbereitung Brandenburg (SVB; Prep Course for International Students in Brandenburg). The survey also focused on the effects of distance learning in the face of pandemic-related restrictions.

These restrictions and the resulting sudden shift from in-person to online courses in March had strong implications for participants and teachers. "There was no alternative: in these difficult conditions, the participants needed structured assistance to prepare for their university entrance examination” (Dr. Christian Jennerich, Head of the Department “Successful Start for International Students”).

The course evaluation showed that in addition to problems with hard- and software and an Internet connection, many participants had difficulties organizing their distance learning. Only 21 % reported that they could do this easily.
In addition to new online formats, participants and staff used Zoom. The majority of the participants (76 %) believed that the Zessko team organized digital lessons well. In addition, participants verified that the learning atmosphere was pleasant (84 %) and the instructors were well prepared, committed, and competent (92%).

"We are again pleased with the very positive feedback from the participants. The fact that 84 % of the participants believe that they are now able to start their studies in Germany successfully—in the current pandemic—shows us that the SVB provides foreign applicants excellent preparation for their studies” (Dr. Volodymyr Kokhan, study preparation).

Based on the success of the prior course, the SVB team at Zessko has decided to continue accepting applications (from June 1 to August 15, 2020) for the current study preparation program. Applicants with certificates acquired outside of Germany should apply via uni-assist (course of studies: University Preparation Brandenburg). Those who fulfill the requirements and have good results in the entrance test will start in the prep course Studienvorbereitung Brandenburg in October.
