3rd International Colloquium "Researching, Practising and Living Multilingualism"
For the third time since 2019, the Language Center of the University of Masaryk in Brno welcomed researchers and teachers to the international conference on multilingualism on 6 and 7 June 2024. This year's colloquium focused on practiced and lived multilingualism. In exciting and thematically diverse contributions, colleagues from Finland, Belgium, France, Iceland, the Czech Republic and other countries used concrete examples and situations to describe what multilingualism means at their universities and institutions, what opportunities it offers and what challenges students and teachers see in it.
The range of topics was very broad, from the presentation of international projects covered by the framework of university alliances and partnerships such as EDUC or EPSULA to an exciting theoretical treatise on multilingualism in contemporary Mayan literature. The role of plurilinguism in the education of teachers was particularly illuminating, as was the need to raise awareness of multilingualism in our society.
As required by the theme chosen for the conference, all discussions were held in several languages, and the corresponding presentations were given in at least two languages. The colloquium gave all participants important impulses for further discussion of the topic.
