Additional Qualification Measures
All doctoral researchers in their second and third years are strongly encouraged to participate in at least one international workshop per annum that provides additional methodological or theoretical training, e.g., the annual ECPR Summer School or the Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis and Collection, MaxQDA workshops, or workshops on interview techniques. Most doctoral researchers will spend a longer period of field research abroad or complete in-house research stages in national or international public administrations. Depending on the individual research project, students will have the opportunity to join national or international administrations for up to six months in order to undertake in-depth empirical research.
Starting from their second year, doctoral researchers and also post-docs are given strong support to present their work at national and, in particular, international conferences, such as, e.g., the annual ECPR Graduate Conference; the Seminar for PhD Students and Junior Researchers that forms part of the Annual Conference of the European Group of Public Administration (EGPA); Young Scientists Panels at various events of the German Association for Political Science (DVPW) – and the German Sociological Association (DGS); or the PhD Workshop and Post-doctoral and Early Career Scholars’ Workshop that directly precede the Annual Colloquium of the European Group of Organizational Studies (EGOS).
