Third-Party Funded Research
The Division of Training and Movement Science realizes various research projects in close collaboration with other universities and with non-university partners.
DFG-Project “MoMap” – part of the priority program „Multitasking“ (2015 - 2018)
Title of the project: Effects of Modality Mappings within working memory on Postural control, associated neural correlates, and training-induced modulation of dual-task performance in old age - MoMaP
Project Sponsor:
Research Questions:
- Study of the associations between working memory load and postural control taking different input (visual, auditory) and output (manual, verbal) modalities in different age groups (comparison: young adults vs. elderly people) into account
- Development of intervention strategies to improve postural control by loading the working memory to contribute for long-term preservation of mobility and fall-prevention in old age
Methodology:
- Cross-sectional ascertainment comparing young and old participants by means of a neuro-psychological test battery, electroencephalography (EEG), force plate and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Intervention study in a pre-post design realizing a combined cognitive-balance training in two experimental and one control group
