Research

In our research, we focus on the design and development of genetic tools that help us to engineer improved host organisms for a sustainable and circular bioeconomy. We focus on establishing standardized workflows that help us to transfer our tools to industrially relevant yeasts.

We also work on new DNA-based molecular tagging strategies to label valuable products for counterfeit protection.

Please contact Dr. Lena Hochrein for more details and discussion about our projects.

SynBio Tools

We develop SynBio tools, e.g. optogenetic switches for the precise fine-tuning of expression levels. Our tools are not limited to model organisms and can be transferred to non-conventional yeasts.

Molecular Tagging

We design anti-forgery tags and develop new strategies to assemble and decode molecular labels based on easy-to-use lateral flow strips or nanopore sequencing.
