Open position:

A position is available in the Master's project “Membrane association and ATPase activity of plant pathogen receptors” at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology and the University of Potsdam. The project benefits from dual supervision by Dr. Alexander Förderer and Prof. Dr. Petra Wendler. The experimental part will mainly be carried out at the MPIMP. The project comprises the purification and biochemical characterization of plant NLR proteins (AAA+ proteases), which are involved in the resistance of crop plants against pathogens. Research into plant NLRs (resistance genes) is of great importance for the improvement of crops and the development of new varieties that are equipped for future challenges in agriculture (climate change). Various techniques are used in the project: recombinant expression in Sf21 insect cells (cell culture), affinity chromatography, size exclusion chromatography (SEC-FPLC), lipid binding studies (liposome assays), ATPase assays, reconstitution in lipid nanodisks (cryo-EM).
