I wrote my PhD thesis on how the literary metanarratives of romance and irony informed an evolving sense of the political in Oscar Wilde. Having studied Literature, History and Philosophy at the University of Potsdam, the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the FernUniversität in Hagen, I received my M.A. in 2010 with a thesis on the hermeneutics of homosexuality in Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray.
I am now working on a habilitation thesis focusing on Decadence (as a broad cultural concept) in World Cinema and World Literature.
In 2018 and 2019 I was a visiting scholar at the University of Delhi as part of the DAAD-funded programme Genre Transactions in World-Literary Space. I made use of the ERASMUS exchange programme, both at student and teacher levels, to spend extended periods for learning and lecturing at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and at Nottingham Trent University.
At present I am teaching as a post-doctoral lecturer in Literary and Cultural Studies in Potsdam's Department of English and American Studies.
My research and teaching interests include:
Political affects
Brexit fiction
Fin de Siècle and Decadent literature
Genre theories
World literature and world cinema in a postcolonial context
Materialist theories of culture
