Kant-Koiv-Symposium "Philosophentag"

Anlässlich des 300. Geburtstags von Kant rückt die Beziehung zwischen dem deutschen Philosophen und dem estnischen Theaterautor Kõiv in den Fokus der Aufmerksamkeit. Zum Abschluss des Symposiums wird der 30. Jahrestag der Uraufführung von Kõivs „Philosophentag“ gefeiert.
Madis Kõivs Werk liegt an der Schnittstelle von Theater und Philosophie. Wie das Theater eine zentrale Metapher der Philosophiegeschichte darstellt, wird auf der Bühne die performative Konstruktion von Wissen vorgeführt. Für Descartes stellt das Bewusstsein eine Art innere Theaterbühne dar, auf der das, was die Sinne wahrnehmen, zur Erscheinung kommt. Kant reflektiert die kognitive Metapher kritisch und vertritt die These, dass das Theater und die Akteure der sinnlichen Wahrnehmung auf das Apriori des Verstandes zurückweisen. Der Schauplatz und die philosophische Struktur von Madis Kõivs Stück „Philosophentag“ knüpfen an diese Denktradition an. Das Stück setzt einen Tag im Juli 1793 in Kants Haus in Königsberg in Szene. In den Gesprächen der Figuren werden philosophische Grundfragen wie die Erkenntnisproduktion, das Verhältnis von Theorie und Praxis und das Problem politischer Herrschaft im Kontext der Französischen Revolution diskutiert.

- Maret Tamme, Teele Pärn, Luule Epner – panel discussion on the relationship between theatre and philosophy in Madis Kõiv’s “Philosopher’s day”, discussion led by Sven Karja.
16.30-18.30 Public reading of “Philosopher’s day” by Madis Kõiv at The New Anatomicum in Tartu.
The text was shortened and slightly modified for the event by director Tiit Palu and dramaturge Sven Karja. It was performed by Karol Kuntsel (in the part of Immanuel Kant), Jüri Lumiste, Ken Rüütel, Kaarel Pogga, Ragne Pekarev and Tiit Palu.
19.00-21.00 Dinner dedicated to celebrating and discussing the authors and topics relevant to the event at Vilde ja Vine restaurant.
The dinner was loosely structured by Elise Metsanurk (Tartu New Theatre) to gather ideas for the side program of the New Theatre’s 2025/26 season, which will be dedicated to Madis Kõiv.
Metsanurk organized room-wide conversation in the form of giving toasts and discussion in groups followed.
