Hardware/System Description Languages
The base for designing hardware is a basic understanding of various circuit concepts and design methods. In this context, the lecture shall introduce the concept of synchronous and asynchronous designs. Based on this, the design flow of integrated circuits as ASIC and FPGA is examplarly shown. The goal of the lecture is the extension of the students' understanding designing hardware and to provide an overview of implementing chips.
Agenda:
- Introduction to VLSI design
- Prinziples of hardware design
- VHDL for logic synthesis
- Design methods for asynchronous logic
- ASIC design flow (logic synthesis, layout, verification)
- FPGA design
The lecture includes practical examples and requires an active collaboration of the students. Finally, the students shall implement and present their own hardware projekts.
