Datenschutz
Box.UP wird vollständig vom ZIM betrieben. Ihre Daten verbleiben innerhalb der Universität Potsdam.
Im Gegensatz dazu informiert der Informationssicherheitsbeauftragte der Universität Potsdam:
Eine übliche Dropbox-Lösung ist nicht vereinbar mit den aktuellen gesetzlichen Anforderungen. Alle Daten seitens Dropbox sind nicht im EU-Raum gehostet. Dritte dürfen zur Verbesserung der Dienste Ihre Daten ansehen (Vertraulichkeit ist nicht gegeben). Auch wird kein Auftragsverarbeitungsvertrag geschlossen, welche etwaige Probleme minimieren könnte! Speicherplatz
Das ZIM bietet pro Account 40 GB Speicherplatz an. Für Lehrstühle, Forschungsgruppen und Projektgruppen bietet Box.UP Arbeitsgruppenverzeichnisse mit zusätzlichem Speicher an. Support im Fehlerfall

Kooperation mit Externen
Über Linkfreigaben können Sie Dateien und Ordner mit Personen außerhalb der Universität Potsdam teilen. Bei intensiver Kooperation bietet das ZIM Gast-Accounts für Externe an. Übrigens: Seit Dezember 2022 können Sie über OnlyOffice gemeinsam Office-Dokumente im Web-Browser bearbeiten - auch ohne Gast-Account.
Mitbestimmungsverfahren
Mit Einführung und Betrieb von Box.UP hat sich das ZIM um diverse rechtliche Fragen gekümmert. So liegen die Zustimmung des Datenschutzbeauftragten sowie des Gesamtpersonalrats zur Verwendung des Dienstes vor. Beides trifft für Dropbox nicht zu.

A common Dropbox solution is not compatible with current legal requirements. All data on the part of Dropbox is not hosted in the EU area. Storage space
ZIM offers 40 GB of storage space per account. For chairs, research groups and project groups Box.UP offers workgroup directories with additional storage. Support in case of errors
Under Box.UP Support ZIM provides installation instructions and further information. In case of problems or questions, the support team at zim-serviceuuni-potsdampde will be happy to help all members and guests of the University of Potsdam.
Cooperation with external parties
You can use link shares to share files and folders with people outside the University of Potsdam. In case of intensive cooperation, ZIM offers guest accounts for externals. By the way: Since December 2022, you can use OnlyOffice to jointly edit Office documents in your web browser - even without a guest account.
Co-determination procedure
With the introduction and operation of Box.UP, ZIM has taken care of various legal issues. For example, the approval of the data protection officer and the general staff council for the use of the service have been obtained. Neither of these apply to Dropbox.
