Dr. Katharina Baum
Katharina Baum received her Master's Degree in Economics and Management Science from Humboldt University, Berlin, during which she focused on behavioral economics. After finishing her Master’s, she joined the Weizenbaum Institute and the Chair for Business Informatics, esp. Social Media and Society at the University of Potsdam as a doctoral candidate in 2018. In her dissertation, which she completed in February 2023, she examined how social media use impacts people’s well-being, behavior, and perceptions, being interested both in individual as well as societal outcomes. Further, she is especially interested in the role of cognitive biases in these relationships.
She continues her work in this area as a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair for Business Informatics, esp. Social Media and Society and as a member of the research group “Well-being in the Digital World” at the Weizenbaum Institute. In her research, she applies experiments, longitudinal and cross-sectional studies, as well as large-scale data analysis with computational methods. Her studies have been published in leading research outlets (e.g., PLOS ONE, Media Psychology, International Conference on Information Systems, and European Conference on Information Systems).
